Software chosen for the problem, not the demo

Buying guides for the business software categories we implement most — applicant tracking, project management and professional services automation, and AI lead generation. Each covers what the category genuinely does, where implementations fail, and when the honest answer is a lighter product than the one you were about to buy.

What each guide gives you

  • The distinction that decides the purchase
  • Where implementations actually fail
  • What the category cannot do
  • Integration points that matter
  • When to buy something smaller instead
Why these read differently

Written to help you decide, not to close you

Most software category pages are feature lists with a demo button. They are written to make every product sound necessary, which is why buyers so often end up with something larger and more expensive than the problem required.

These guides take the opposite approach. Each one leads with the distinction that actually decides the purchase — a corporate applicant tracking system and an agency one are different products, task tracking and project accounting answer different questions, a routing fix usually beats a scoring model — and each says plainly where a lighter tool or no tool at all is the better answer.

We implement these categories rather than resell them, so scope is not sized to a licence commission. Where the honest recommendation is smaller, that is what you will get.

Bought from a demoImpressive in a scripted walkthrough, wrong for how you actually work
The wrong categoryA corporate product sold to an agency, or a platform sold where a tool would do
Integration as an afterthoughtData re-keyed between systems because the joins were never scoped
Adoption assumedA configured system people route around is worth nothing
The guides

Three categories, three decisions

Each is a full guide rather than a summary — written by the people who implement them.

Applicant tracking systems and recruitment software

The category split that costs the most money: a corporate ATS is requisition-driven for one employer, an agency ATS is submission-driven across many clients with a commercial layer and a client portal. Buying the wrong one is the common expensive mistake.

  • Corporate versus agency data models and commercial layer
  • Résumé parsing accuracy as the hidden adoption cost
  • AI screening under the EU AI Act and NYC Local Law 144
  • India specifics: campus volume, offer-to-join drop-off, notice periods

Project management and professional services automation

Task tracking tells you what is being worked on. It does not tell you whether the project is profitable, whether you can staff the next one, or what to invoice. For a services business the second question is the one that pays salaries.

  • Utilisation defined honestly, and bench as a leading indicator
  • WIP, unbilled revenue and where cash quietly disappears
  • Revenue recognition under IFRS 15 and Ind AS 115
  • Estimate-to-complete versus the percentage-spent error

AI lead generation and revenue forecasting

Most pipelines are fixed by routing a lead to a named person within minutes, not by a scoring model. We say which problems are workflow problems and which genuinely warrant AI.

  • Lead scoring bias inherited from past wins
  • Intent data as prioritisation, not qualification
  • Geofenced field sales within DPDP and GDPR limits
  • Why forecasts miss: stage definitions and close-date hygiene
How we deliver

How a selection engagement runs

Short, fixed-scope, and it ends with a decision you can defend to a board.

01

Frame the decision

What question the software has to answer, who asks it, and how often. Most bad purchases start with a feature list instead.

02

Test against your data

Vendors demo with clean sample data. We run your real records through the shortlist — your worst résumés, your messiest project, your actual lead flow.

03

Score and document

A weighted comparison you keep, with the reasoning visible, so the choice survives the person who made it leaving.

04

Decide, including the option to stop

Sometimes the recommendation is to fix a process and revisit in a year. That is a legitimate outcome and we will say so.

Questions we get

Before you ask

Do you resell any of these products?
No. We implement and support them, and we take no licence margin, so the scope we propose is not sized to a commission. That is also why these guides name the cases where a smaller product or no purchase at all is the right answer.
Can you help us choose without implementing?
Yes. A selection review is fixed-scope and stands alone: you receive a weighted comparison against your own requirements and data, with the reasoning documented. You can run the implementation with us, with another firm, or in-house.
What if we already bought the wrong thing?
That is common and usually recoverable. The first step is a health check establishing what is configured, what is used and what is being worked around. Sometimes the fix is configuration and process rather than replacement, and replacing a system people already distrust rarely solves the underlying problem on its own.
How long does a selection review take?
It depends on how many stakeholders need to agree and how accessible your current data is. The work itself is short; scheduling the people who must sign off is usually what sets the calendar. We give an indicative range once we know who is involved.
Do you cover products you do not implement?
In a selection review, yes. Recommending a product we do not deliver is a normal outcome and we would rather do that than fit you to our capability. If we cannot implement what we recommend, we will say so at the point we recommend it.
Which of these integrates with our ERP?
All three should, and the integration is usually where the value is: applicant tracking into the HR system on hire, project accounting into the general ledger, and lead-to-cash from the CRM into order management. We scope those joins during selection rather than discovering them afterwards.

Let's build what's next — together.

Whether it's setting up your India GCC, modernizing your enterprise stack, or hiring 50 engineers in 30 days — we'd love to scope it with you.
